How to Play 'Lost Stars' by Guitar(Jason)

1.  Before Playing :    Tuning and holding a pick

Before playing the guitar, you have to tune a guitar and learn how to hold ‘pick’. To tune the guitar, set the 6^th string to E(mi), 5^th string to A(la), 4^th string to D(re), 3^rd string to G(sol), 2^nd string to B(ti), 1^st string to E(mi). the top of string is 6^th string and the bottom of string is 1^st string. It is more convenient to use tuner.

Pick is used to stroke guitar string. When you hold a pick, you should make an O shape with the thumb and index finger, and the pick is held between the two fingers, and make the sharp edge of the pick protruding from the thumb like this

2.     Stroke  

‘Stroke’ is to scratch the strings by moving your right hand up and down with holding pick. Beginner usually has a difficult time to stroke naturally. It is important not to give much power on your right hand and you tried to make a balance of power between up picking (scratching strings by moving upward) and down picking (scratching strings by moving downward). Practice makes your stroke more natural.

In the ‘Lost stars’, stroke is a little difficult for beginner. I prepared some stroke rhythms that are naturally matched. But you don’t have to follow this stroke rhythm. You can try any other strokes how you feel. I just prepare the most common stroke rhythm. Although I prepared it, maybe, you are not familiar with musical note and it is not enough to recognize real stroke rhythm. It is better to learn ‘Lost Stars’ stroke through below video.   

 

3.     Chords and Music Score

There are so many chords for playing guitar. I’ll show you basic C, D, E, F, G, A, B chords and some frequently used chords. your left hand is going to make chord on the finger board of guitar. Especially F and B are the chords that most beginners feel painful and difficult. It will be very painful to your left fingers until you get used to every chords.

     

But to play ‘Lost Stars’ by guitar, F chord and B chord are not needed. So this song is very easy to play even though singing this song is very difficult. To play ‘Lost Star’, you just know FM7, Em, G, D, Dm, C chords.

 5.     Tips

For beginner, it is very difficult to maintain right hand’s balance of stroke with changing chords by left hand. So, I recommend to stroke with each left hand chords and when you get used to stroke with each chord, slowly practice to change chords. And even though you are a good singer, to sing with playing guitar is very confused and difficult.
